Flying the simulator with a high degree of realism requires that you update the FS navaids and magnetic variation database. The FS navaids and magnetic variation data are now somewhat outdated. This page will give you access to updates I performed, mainly for my personal use, and sites that provide valuable information for properly updating FS data.

The Updated Magvar data package provides an updated set of Magdec.bgl files (2005 & 2010) for FS9 and FSX. New values have been calculated according to the exact IGRF-10/11 mathematical model at epox 2005/2010. Replacing the default magdec.bgl file with one of those provided in this package will result in a much better fit between FS displayed headings and current documentation data (runway, ILS and procedure headings). NEW: a small utility to correct other additional magnetic variation data inside BGL files is also provided. Install instructions are included.

EasyNavs FS9/FSX is an utility that can extract VOR and NDB data from any FS9 and FSX BGL file (with associated Scenery objects), edit and save them (via a dedicated database manager) and rebuild an updated XML file that can be compiled with the BGLComp Microsoft compiler. This utility will allow an update of all default FS Navaids files (FS9 and FSX), including associated scenery objects and recalculation of updated magnetic variation. NEW: Direct navaid changes inside BGL files, magnetic variation correction inside BGLs and ILS inspection are also provided.
